Genetically pure quality seed is a vital input in cotton cultivation and yield increase can be achieved up to 20 – 25% by use of quality seeds. Governmental agencies supply only 5-10% of seed requirement of farmers. To supplement the availability of quality seeds, the SIMA CD&RA has been distributing annually over 500 m. tones of seeds of varieties like Supriya, Suvin, MCU–5, MCU-5 VT, MCU-7, Surabhi and LRA-5166, Suraj and hybrids such as SIMA HB-3 and GKS. The seeds known popularly as "SIMA SEEDS" have won the confidence of cotton growers not only in the Southern States, but also in other States like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Orissa, West Bengal, Tripura and elsewhere in the country.
Production and supply of genetically pure seeds to the farming community are the continuous and social commitment of the SIMA CD&RA.
Considering the expenditure involved, after a very long time, seed cotton procurement was made from the funds of SIMA CD & RA, the cost of processing was reduced and premium spent on seeds was saved.
In the changed scenario of Bt cotton throughout the country, the distribution of non Bt. variety cotton seeds has been drastically reduced.
