SIMA CD & RA is a registered non –profit making service oriented organization. It was established in the year 1974 by the textile mills in the Southern States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Pondicherry.

Registered under the Societies of Registration Act XXI of 1860, S.No.100 of 19740.

The in-house R & D of the SIMA CD & RA has been recognized by "SIRO" under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi. The R & D Farm is situated at Ponneri village near Udumalpet. 6 KM from Udumalpet on the highways of Udumalpet to Tiruppur.

SIMA CD & RA promote the development of cotton farming for enhancing cotton production and productivity and to supplement the efforts of State, Central Governments and other agencies.

Objectives

• To promote the development of cotton farming for enhancing cotton productivity, production and quality so that the raw cotton may be made available at reasonable cost to the textile mills.

• To supplement the efforts of the State and Central Governments and other agencies in promoting the increased production of quality cotton to meet the demands of the textile industry.

The activities are focused towards:

• Developmental activities for imparting technical know – how on improved modern technology for cotton cultivation

• Undertaking cotton research through sponsored programme funded by CD&RA in well established research institutions or its own in house projects for developing high yielding cotton varieties and hybrids

• Production and distribution of bio-fertilizers

• Imparting trainings to the seed farm farmers and cotton growers about the improved practices and low cost technologies

• Conducting Front Line Demonstrations' (FLD) and Farmers' Field Schools on cotton
